About our program
Our Occupational Therapy stroke program begins with a comprehensive assessment of physical, cognitive, perceptual and psychosocial abilities to identify strengths and challenges in daily activities. Our OTs then work with clients and families to set meaningful SMART goals and develop individualized treatment plans. Interventions may include motor retraining, cognitive and perceptual exercises, task-specific practice, assistive device training and environmental modifications. Clients and caregivers also receive education, home exercise programs, and psychosocial support. Using evidence-based, client-centred strategies, the program promotes functional recovery, independence, and improved wellbeing for stroke survivors.
Intervention strategies
Interventions are tailored to the individual’s needs, focusing on regaining skills through repetitive, task-specific training, as well as providing compensatory strategies and environmental adaptations:
- Motor Skills Rehabilitation
- Cognitive Remediation
- Perceptual Retraining
- Self-Care (ADL) and Home Management Training
Environmental adaptations
Assessing and modifying the client’s home or work environment to ensure safety, accessibility, and ease of task performance. This may involve:
- Home safety evaluations and recommendations
- Recommendations for daily living aids
- Work accommodations, such as flexible scheduling or ergonomic equipment.
