Learn about Running Assessments at Infinity Health Calgary
Learn how Running Assessments help identify movement patterns and reduce injury risk, explained by Lead Physiotherapist Keith Wilson at Infinity Health Calgary.
Are you stuck in a cycle of running and getting injured?
Curious whether your running form is helping or holding you back? Or maybe you’re looking to improve your speed, efficiency, or endurance.
Each year, nearly 80% of runners experience an injury—many of which are preventable. Running is a skill, and like any skill, it doesn’t come naturally to most people. It requires coaching, practice, and feedback. That’s where we come in.
Grounded in research
Our running assessments are grounded in the research of Dr. Chris Powers and Dr. Irene Davis, two of the world’s leading experts in running biomechanics. Dr. Powers leads a biomechanics research department at the University of Southern California, while Dr. Davis is the founder of the Spaulding National Running Center and a professor at the University of South Florida. Their work has established biomechanical “bandwidths” for joint motion during running, and research has shown that falling outside these ranges can contribute to many common lower-extremity injuries. We use these evidence-based benchmarks to guide our assessments and recommendations.
Optimize your running
At Infinity Health, we go beyond biomechanics alone. For those looking for a deeper dive into why you run the way you do, we also offer comprehensive performance testing using VALD ForceDecks, dynamometry, and additional endurance and capacity assessments. These tools allow us to assess lower-body power, lower extremity functional strength, individual muscle strength and endurance, and hip and ankle range of motion—key factors that influence how you run.

Our assessments
Following your assessment, you’ll receive a comprehensive 40-page report outlining your running mechanics, performance metrics, and areas for improvement. This includes a personalized exercise program and individualized education and cueing to help you run more efficiently and with less risk of injury.
Our advantage doesn’t stop at assessment. Using our motion-capture cameras, we can provide real-time visual feedback during treatment sessions. You’ll see three camera angles displayed live while running, allowing us to coach immediate changes to your form. Exercise and education are important, but practicing with instant biofeedback is often the missing piece that makes lasting change possible.
