What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Pediatric Occupational Therapy (OT) helps children build the skills they need for everyday life. Whether it’s playing, eating, getting dressed, holding a pencil, or making friends, Occupational Therapists (OTs) support children as they learn to move, explore and connect with the world around them. It’s all about giving kids the tools to succeed in the little things—so they can shine in the big stuff!
Our therapists work with children from birth to age 17 who may experience challenges related to developmental delays, sensory processing, coordination, neurodivergence, physical disabilities and more. Every child is unique, so we tailor therapy to their needs.
Kids learn best through play, so our sessions feel like fun while building confidence, independence and joy. We take a child- and family-centred approach, encouraging parents or caregivers to join in—because the more support a child has, the further they can go.
We’ll help you feel equipped with the tools and strategies to support your child beyond the therapy room.
Helping your child thrive
Children who experience difficulties with daily activities, play, or participation in school may benefit from occupational therapy regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis. Some of the more common diagnoses we work with include:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Autism
- Cerebral Palsy
- Developmental Coordination Disorder
- Down Syndrome
- Dyslexia
- Global Developmental Delay
- Intellectual disability
- Spinal Bifida
- Sensory Processing Dysfunction
Our services
Assessments
Our comprehensive assessment process is designed to understand your concerns, evaluate your child’s functional strengths and challenges, and identify the underlying causes of any difficulties.
Our two-part assessment
Session One: A parent-only session (without your child) where your therapist learns about your child’s history, your family dynamic, and what supports you’re looking for.
Session Two: Your child meets the therapist in a low-pressure, playful session focused on relationship-building and understanding their strengths and areas of need.
This approach helps us build strong foundations before we dive into direct support. Following the assessment, our Occupational Therapist will review the findings with you and discuss recommended treatment strategies.
Looking for a more in-depth understanding of your child’s needs? We offer comprehensive assessments that may also include:
- Parent/caregiver interviews
- Direct observation in various settings (clinic, home, school, daycare)
- Standardized testing (if appropriate)
- A detailed written report with personalized recommendations
